Water is Life

I sit beside this gurgling water
Where the silt makes the river run red
As it carries Mother Earth’s gift
Her life’s blood surging, damping the dirt
That lies baking in the heat of the sun
Beating down on all the broken dreams
Words are released from my pen
Rushing fast rather than stately and slow
A storm that thunders from head to ink
Screaming “Keep our life’s blood safe!”

(my words for the word association poem: Water, red, gift, dirt, heat, broken, words, slow, storm, safe)
